Thank goodness for the Lansdowne

The NLC’s final Hamilton-Russell Cup match of the season was at home against the Chelsea Arts Club. A weakened side saw three brave NLC warriors (missing Mister Widdicombe who was on Brownies-ferrying duty) taking on the might of the Chelsea Arts Club.
 .
Beneath the dilettante exterior of the CAC lurk hard matchplayers. Three games, 3-0 to the Chelsea Arts.
 .
But luckily the NLC had our good friend Miss Seiben from the Lansdowne playing on board 4. Miss Seiben had dashed off to the Chelsea Arts Club thinking it was an away fixture. She returned to secure the victory and prevent a whitewash. Thank goodness for the Lansdowne!
The Lady Violet Room ready for battle
Let battle commence
Doctor Kirby played black against Izzie Thomas on Board 1. The good doctor had
already lost to his opponent at the friendly back in November. A better performance in a Queen’s pawn opening, but sadly the same result.
At least Doctor Kirby gets past move 20 this time.
Mister Trivedi lost a complex game against David Cohen on Board 2. Mister Trivedi had attacking chances but the French maestro ground out the win.
The calm before the storm
Mister Osseiran was pitched in at Board 3 against the impressive Mike Radcliffe. A brave performance from Mister Osseiran, but the opponent was just too good.
You only learn by playing good players – but it still hurts.
Miss Seiben played Joe Coles on Board 4. Despite having a worse position in a rook and pawn ending, Miss Seiben managed to secure the win. Every point counts…
Miss Seiben channelling the spirit of Frank Marshall!
And on to dinner (with a bonus starter course of smoked fish terrine). The NLC may be bottom in the Hamilton-Russell Cup, but we’re not bottom of the social league.
And the Chelsea Arts Club players enjoyed the Club and its architecture – and they should know!
