After the high of the NLC Lightning Tournament, the NLC came back to earth at the
Oxford and Cambridge Club friendly.
.
The O&C said it was fielding a ‘social’ team. Unfortunately, it wasn’t social enough for
the NLC as the wandering band went down to a 3-1 loss. But as always it was a
pleasant evening, the Guinea Fowl dinner being particularly good.
.
Mister King secured the only win for the NLC, but has signed a big money transfer to join the East India Club next season. We’re not sure this happened during a valid club chess transfer window!
Also given his age, there should surely be some form of compensation element
payable…

Doctor Kirby ended up in a carbon copy of his match against the RAC. Early activity
in a Nimzo-Indian but positional errors leading to a passive position and his
opponent breaking through on the kingside.

Mister King secured the NLC’s only point against Vivian Woodward, despite having
been under pressure for most of the match.

Mister Trivedi lost a hard match against David Jones, biting on the granite of his
opponent’s sturdy pawn formation.

Mister Osseiran lost against Travis Winstanley who was a late substitute for the O&C
and had to be fetched from the bar. Pity he hadn’t stayed there a bit longer! Mister
Osseiran was rook for bishop up, but sadly managed to blunder away his Queen.
