NLC lose form vs Reform

NLC lost a close-fought match against our friends from the Reform 1.5 – 3.5. It was likely many of our matches this season. The NLC had quite a few chances, but were ground down by good opponents.

But this was a friendly, and as always we were ably led by Mister Trivedi. A pleasant evening all round.

The good news was that Mister Whiteley managed to win his match on Board 5. May it be the first of many – we need them!

Match on!

Eschewing his usual caution, Doctor Kirby got into a helter-skelter match against Richard Hall. Perhaps a bit more caution in the middle game would have been useful as his canny opponent broke through on the Queenside late on.

The rarely seen Bird’s Opening 1f4
Mister Trivedi had a hard-fought game against Danny Rosenbaum but fell for a sucker punch check and lost his queen.

Doctor Schady drew. Doctor Schady was a pawn down but put up a stubborn defence and used his time advantage to secure the draw.

More points from Doctor Schady

Mister Osseiran lost a tactical match against Teddy Bourne. Despite being material down he had a good Kingside attack and made his opponent work for the win. Mister Whiteley won his first game against our friend Anne Abel-Smith, organiser of the Reform’s social chess events.

Keep up the good work chaps

And so to dinner and good conversation. Being 1st March there was a Welsh theme for St David’s Day

More tasty lamb at the NLC…!
