NLC hurl everything at the opposition

The 15th of December saw the last chess fixture of 2016 for the NLC as we welcomed the Hurlingham Club to the NLC for a friendly.

A hugely enjoyable night of chess was had – the Hurlingham crowd really are a lovely bunch. Yet again, we gave it everything, but went down 1.5 – 3.5.

As ever, the pictures and games will do the talking:

Board 1: Doctor ‘Caro-Kann’ Kirby v Gareth Ross (reportedly a former Welsh champion). (It’s interesting to compare this to Doctor Kirby’s last game v The Athenaeum where he played the same variation).

Doctor Kirby gives his Bg5 King’s Indian another try…
Mister King turns out for the NLC for friendly Hamilton-Russell games. The blitz-addict did well to score a half point in what for him is an unfamiliar long play format. He played against Michael Yeoh.
Mister King bravely turned down a draw offer, but had to split in the end…

Mister Widdicombe was board 3, and won against Robert Gordon.

Mister Hamme took board 4, and lost to Richard Paterson.

Mister Hamme putting in a solid shift, but couldn’t bring it home at the end.

Mister Osserian was on board 5, and lost to James Grogono.

Mister Osserian came close. It won’t be long before he notches up the points.
