Wednesday 08 April saw the third installment of the NLC’s Corona lock-down online chess evenings. It gets better each week, with more and more NLC members getting involved. We also refined the time controls and pairings for the evening so things certainly went at a clip.
There were a number of NLC members joining for the very first time – Ian ‘Majicm68’ Mattison, Rahul ‘rahul_ldn’ Sinha and Strabo ‘Strabo1071’ Newman. Welcome one and all. It’s great to have you along. (And welcome back for a second evening to Nicholas ‘Ndi78’ Iounnou and Rob ‘blo9981’ Bitty ).
Games of the week
Each week, this journal’s Editorial Committee will present to the Chess Circle two online games from that week’s session that, in their esteemed view, display a particularly lively charm. Perhaps it will be a ferocious attack, or a dogged defence, maybe a catastrophic blunder or simply something that piques the Committee’s interest…
With so many players involved this week there were a huge number of games played. Consequently the Editorial Committee had a very tough time picking out the Games of the Week. Undoubtedly some brilliance will have been overlooked, but nevertheless here are the two selected Games of the week.
The first Game of the week was selected to showcase some of our new members. Here we see Rob ‘blo9981’ Bitty facing Nicholas ‘Ndi78’ Iounnou in a 36 mover. Black gets on top early in the game and pushes through his advantage. Pieces fly, and a nice checkmate finishes the game.
The second game is the hard-fought final game between our Reform Club friend Danny ‘Delacorta’ Rosenbaum and the NLC’s own Doctor ‘NRK104’ Kirby. This was the game that settled the honours for the evening after Doctor Kirby was able to push through and bag the points just prior to the 9pm guillotine for games. With that the chasers couldn’t catch him.
The next session will be Wednesday 15 April, 7pm sharp.
