The Hamilton-Russell season has finished. The last pawn has been pushed and the last blunder has been made. The final table is as follows:
Look on this table with pride.
Instead of propping up the table we have reached the heady heights of mid-table obscurity. Victories over the Hurlingham, Reform and Chelsea Arts Clubs plus a hard-fought draw against the title-challenging Athenaeum mean the NLC finishes joint fourth.
Never in the field of human conflict has so much been owed by so many to so few – or something like that.
No longer can our motto be ‘we came, we saw, we lost, we had dinner’.
Our thoughts will now turn to the summer competitions for the Club Championship and the Club Blitz. But next Autumn we will fight again to uphold the legacy of NLC chess in the Hamilton Russell Cup 2022/23.
A superb result. Well done all.
And especially well done and many thanks to Nick for great captaincy and for scrapping for the hard-earned points on Board 1.
