Libs in mystery match against the East India

A match took place between the NLC and the Oriental East India on 15 February. This journal, alas, found itself in the unusual position of not being able to send a staff journalist along to record events. The Editorial Board had hoped to piece together the evening’s events from eye-witness accounts and other reports on the newswires.

Sadly, scant record of the match appears to exist beyond the three following photographic plates, which at least prove the match happened. Participants, score or game moves remain, at this point, lost to history.

If any member of the public has further information on the happenings of this match please urgently telegram The NLC Chess Circle Editorial Board, 1 Whitehall Place.

  1. The Deputy Staff Journalist writes:

As a serving trade union official and thus used to delving in the undergrowth, I am reliably informed that the match scorecard was as follows:

    1 Nigel Giffin (C) (B) Eddie Ko 0-1
2 Richard Saldanha Marley Robinson 0-1
3 Jay Dias Paul Wood 0-1
    4 Mark Taylor Dan Kaszeta (C) 1-0

This all shows the value of having a semi-official ringer in the form of Our Good Friend Mister Taylor.
