Three-way play off in summer blitz nail-biter

An extraordinary evening of fast-paced blitz action took place on Monday 02 July at the Clubhouse.

The NLC 2018 Summer Blitz competition saw the creme de la creme of NLC blitz players, as well as Mister Widdicombe, slug it out for the Kennedy Cup.

Doctor Kirby was hoping for the hattrick, having won it in 2016 and 2017, but little did he know how stiff the competition was to be…

Captain Hamme burst out of the blocks, attacking with all the ferocity of a cornered mongrel and went in to the halftime drinks break with an incredible 3/3.

Mister Chamberlain and Doctor Kirby steadied themselves over the second half and the competition drew to an end with each having taken points from each other and a three-way tie the result. A playoff beckoned….

Mister Hamme Doctor Kirby Mister Widd. Mister Chamb. Total
Mister Hamme X 1/0 1/1 1/0 4
Doctor Kirby 1/0 X 1/1 1/0 4
Mister Widdicombe 0/0 0/0 X 0/0 0
Mister Chamberlain 1/0 1/0 1/1 X 4

Mister Chamberlain was close to outright victory. With a strong Gladstone push this year it can’t be long before his name is on a trophy…

The Doctor hasn’t had it this tough in a while. He had to accept his position as just one of the pack.
The story of the evening. Captain ‘The Hammer’ Hamme laid waste to his opponents in the first half of the comp, easing off in the second.

The playoff was a single round robin with random colours. Here’s a piece of the action from the Hamme v Chamberlain encounter:

With Mister Hamme dropping away the Doctor managed to squeak past a flagging Mister Chamberlain, to win with 1.5 points. A damn close run thing.

Mister Hamme Doctor Kirby Mister Chamb. Total
Mister Hamme X 0.5 0 0.5
Doctor Kirby 0.5 X 1 1.5
Mister Chamberlain 1 0 X 1
The Hammer takes a half point from the Doctor in the playoff. The Doctor began to sweat…

Well done Doctor Kirby. He always produces when it comes to a playoff.
