Gladstone update: Doctor Kirby beat Mister Widdicombe.
The game was not a classic, with Mister Widdicombe offering an ‘inadvertent positional sacrifice’ of a bishop on move 5 and then for good measure a pawn on move 8.
Whilst the game lasted another 41 moves, this was largely because there was little else to do until dinner.
So congratulations to Mister Kirby, who cannot now be bested in the Gladstone. If Mister Chamberlain beats Captain Hamme in their forthcoming encounter, then we will have a tie for first place and the prospect of a play off.
