Gladstone sprints ahead

The competitive season may be over, but the NLC players are busy slogging it out in the Club championship.

Four games to present:

First, two lead contenders for the Trophy ground each other down to a draw.

The following week Mister Chamberlain dispatched Mister Giffin QC through his trademark python grip technique, slowly winding a small advantage up to a won position.

Then the following evening the Doctor got to work. He quickly got into a complicated middlegame with the minor pieces flying around, from which he emerged with a solid lead and duly converted.

And finally, the Doctor versus the Captain. Captain Hamme held the game for the first 15 or so moves, but the Doctor pulled away and Mister Hamme’s position collapsed on move 28.

So Doctor Kirby and Mister Chamberlain share top spot with 2.5 apiece. Will the trophy be shared this year? Only time will tell.

Keep playing your games. End of August deadline.
