Good NLC representation at the Knights’ Tour 2017

Four members of the NLC have represented the NLC at this year’s Knight’s Tour event.

Messers Widdicombe, Hammer, Whiteley and Osseiran all had a very busy afternoon on Monday 25th September as they have participated to this year’s edition of the famous Knights’ Tour organised by the Hamilton and Russell Cup bosses. This event involved three rounds of rapid chess at the Oxford & Cambridge, the RAC, and the Athenaeum followed by a dinner at the Reform.

The NLC players were scattered among the boards of the  four mixed teams, and they all have managed to win some of the thirty minutes per side games scoring some points for their respective squads. Mister Osseiran, one of the NLC players was proud to be member of ‘Team Ringo’ which managed to win this year’s edition of the event.

Some Games Played on this day

Round 1 saw an NLC derby:

Whiteley showed his class in round 2, too.

Mister Whiteley benefited from a hanging knight in round 3.

Mister Widdicombe’s first round game where Black held the defense well into the game but had to lose on time.

Mister Widdicombe’s second round game ended on a White’s early resignation, despite still having some resource had they wished to continue the fight….

Mister Widdicombe’s third round game where Black men hadn’t much defense left to stop White’s crushing pair of rooks…

Do you recognise any NLC member in this painting displayed at the RAC representing a chess event?
