Another match, another loss. As ever, the final score doesn’t do justice to the close run games.
It was a seven board match, and the NLC had it’s full team out.
Doctor Kirby took board 1 against Samuel Franklin.
Mister Widdicombe was travelling from Cambridge for the game, and arrived 15 minutes late. Quickly going two pawns up and with a superior position against Yaroslav Voropayev, he fell in to time trouble and a misplaced queen move blew the game with seconds to spare.
Mister Trivedi on board 3 lost to Hamilton McMillan and Mister Hamme, board 4, couldn’t master Edward Brown and went down too.
With Mister Edwards on 5 losing to Habib Amir and Mister Osserian (board 7) bettered by Nicolas Gowlland, it was left to Doctor Shady to save NLC blushes on board 5.
Final score: NLC 1-6 East India and Oriental.
So to the meal. Usual exemplary fare from the NLC kitchen.
